Most of us hate discipline and or correction. Success takes being disciplined and corrected. Without it we will not succeed. God is our moral coach. He wants us to do better, to improve, to show more love to him and to others. God is one who loves, and genuine love involves discipline. As a Christian, we sometimes disciplines us... and that is OK.
"You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you. "Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him. Deuteronomy 8:5-6 (NKJV)
"Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. For He bruises, but He binds up; He wounds, but His hands make whole. Job 5:17-18 (NKJV)
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV)
For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:12 (NKJV)
Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. Proverbs 9:8 (NKJV)
The ear that hears the rebukes of life Will abide among the wise. Proverbs 15:31 (NKJV)
Rebuke is more effective for a wise man Than a hundred blows on a fool. Proverbs 17:10 (NKJV)
Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold Is a wise rebuker to an obedient ear. Proverbs 25:12 (NKJV)
It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise Than for a man to hear the song of fools. Ecclesiastes 7:5 (NKJV)
But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. 1 Corinthians 11:32 (NKJV)
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (NKJV)
And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the LORD loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives." If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:5-11 (NKJV)
