Hypocrisy

Have you ever heard people say "I don't go to church.  Churches are full of
hypocrites?"  There is some truth to that, however, I dare to say that we're all
hypocrites at times in and out of church.  As people, we need to evaluate ourselves
all the time and it's work in progress.  I think people who say that use that as an
excuse.  We all have to examine why we go to church in the first place.  Christianity is
not a solo sport we all need communion with other believers.  God despises hypocrites.
..some of the harshest warnings in the Bible are reserved for the pretenders in
religion, the ones who act out a life of faith but inwardly deny it.

Fervent lips with a wicked heart Are like earthenware covered with silver
dross.  He who hates, disguises it with his lips, And lays up deceit within
himself;  When he speaks kindly, do not believe him, For there are seven
abominations in his heart;  Though his hatred is covered by deceit, His
wickedness will be revealed before the assembly.
Proverbs 26:23-26 (NKJV)

He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who tells lies shall
not continue in my presence.  Psalms 101:7 (NKJV)

"I hate, I despise your feast days, And I do not savor your sacred
assemblies. Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings,
I will not accept them, Nor will I regard your fattened peace offerings.  Take
away from Me the noise of your songs, For I will not hear the melody of
your stringed instruments.  But let justice run down like water, And
righteousness like a mighty stream.  Amos 5:21-24 (NKJV)

"Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them.
Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.  "Therefore, when you do a
charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues
and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have
their reward.  "But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your
right hand is doing,  Matthews 6:1-3 (NKJV)

"And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the
synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I
say to you, they have their reward.  Matthews 6:5 (NKJV)

"Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they
disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they
have their reward.  Matthews 6:16 (NKJV)

"And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your
own eye?  "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and
look, a plank is in your own eye?  "Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and
then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.  Matthews 7:3-5 (NKJV)

"For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known. "Therefore whatever you
have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be
proclaimed on the housetops.  Luke 12:2-3 (NKJV)

"But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do the things which I say?  Luke 6:46 (NKJV)

He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1 John 2:4 (NKJV)

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.  For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not
a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately
forgets what kind of man he was.  But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a
forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.  If anyone among you thinks he is
religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless.  Pure and
undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself
unspotted from the world.  James 1:22-27 (NKJV)
