Work to some is a four letter word. Work hard is a good thing...frankly, you will fail in whatever enterprise you're doing unless you work hard. If people ask me what is my secret to success...it is Pray like it's up to God and work like it's up to me...just remember to put God first and you will succeed. The bible talks about working hard and also that if you're lazy you will fail.
He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, But he who follows frivolity is devoid of understanding. Proverbs 12:11 (NKJV)
The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor. Proverbs 12:24 (NKJV)
The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, But diligence is man's precious possession. Proverbs 12:27 (NKJV)
To balance out the "work-hard-and-succeed" promises of the book of proverbs, the Book of Ecclesiastes assures us that human beings cannot find their ultimate satisfaction in work. Only God can provide that kind of satisfaction.
Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun. Ecclesiastes 2:11 (NKJV)
Paul, a hard worker in the Lord's service, had no patience with laziness. He knew that idleness not only displeased God but also gave unbelievers a low opinion of Christians.
that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 (NKJV)
But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8 (NKJV)
Paul promised Christians something that we often forget: work does not need to be humdrum, because we can do it to the glory of God. Like any part of ourselves, our work - whatever it may be - can honor the Lord.
not with eye-service, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, Ephesians 6:6-7 (NKJV)
