Person A…
…has a heart for serving.  She even goes to India and all her life serves the poor.  She heard about Jesus and
believes that he was a good man but does not believe that he is her savior.  Will person A get into heaven?

Answer...NO
The idea that we get into heaven by good works is one of the most widespread erroneous beliefs.  Let's be clear...
good works are important if you are saved, but it will not get you into heaven.  Some of our works might look good
in our own self righteous eyes, however, it will fall short of God's standards.

The Bible is clear...
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption
that is in Christ Jesus" Romans 3:23-24 (NKJV)

"But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;"  Isaiah 64:6 (NKJV)

"Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become
conscious of sin."  Romans 3:20 (NIV)

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by
works, so that no one can boast.”  Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV,)

I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"
Gal 2:21 (NIV)

“Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith.  28 Therefore we
conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.”   Romans 3:27-28 (NKJV)

“So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.”   Romans 9:16 (NKJV)

“Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose
and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,”  2 Tim 1:9 (NKJV)

“What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even
the righteousness of faith; but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of
righteousness.  Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they
stumbled at that stumbling stone.  As it is written: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense,
And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame."  Romans 9:30-33 (NKJV)

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,”
Romans 5:1 (NKJV)

“And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer
grace; otherwise work is no longer work.”  Romans 11:6 (NKJV)

Person B…
…was raised in a Christian home, and was baptized as a baby.  He tries to live a good life to be worthy of getting
into heaven.  Will person B get into heaven.

Answer...NO
Salvation is about a personal decision to accept Jesus as our personal savior.  It's not something that is inherited
from our parents.  Being baptized as a baby will not save us.  Again, as with person A, good works will not save us
either.

Let's see what the Bible says...
So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."  Acts 16:31 (NKJV)

"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His
name."  John 1:12 (NKJV)

"He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the
wrath of God abides on him."  John 3:36 (NKJV)

"That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved."   Romans 10:9 (NIV)

Person C…
…believes that there are many ways to get into heaven.  Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed will all get him into heaven.
Will person C get into heaven?

Answer...NO
We all want to get into Heaven on our own terms.  Frankly, I would have my own way if I could.  Unfortunately, the
road is narrow [Matthew 7:13-14].  I've been called narrow minded, intolerant and even worse for believing that
Jesus is the only way.

Frankly, it's not me that is claiming that Jesus is the only way...it's the Bible and even Jesus Himself who made that
claim.  Jesus is either, a fool, a liar or He is who He claimed to be and that is God's son who died and paid the price
for our sins, so that we can have a relationship with God the Father.

Here is what the Bible has to say...
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6 (NKJV)

"He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the
wrath of God abides on him."  John 3:36 (NKJV)

"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must
be saved."   Acts 4:12 (NKJV)

Person D…
…was a Nazi responsible for killing 500,000 people in one of the concentration camps.  At the end of his life he
repents and turns for his many sins and accepts Jesus as his personal savior.  Will person D get into heaven?

Answer...YES
Some of you might be shocked by this, however, according to the Bible, it is true...that person will end up in
Heaven.

The truth is that none of us deserves to go to Heaven.  We all have sinned and therefore fall short of God’s
standard for getting into Heaven: you have to be as perfect and sinless as Jesus was. Basically as with person A,
salvation is not based on works.  You might say, “But, I've never killed anyone!”.  Actually, Jesus said that if you
hate someone it's the same as murdering him.

There are many examples in the Bible of people who did many bad things - like Paul, who had many people killed –
yet still made it into Heaven.  The thief on the cross is another example.  The thief was an evil person who himself
said that he deserved to die. However, Jesus himself told the thief that he would be with Jesus in Heaven that very
day.  The thief was moments from dying and therefore could not get baptized or do any good deeds to further earn
his way into Heaven [none of us can either, by the way: we’re saved by Jesus alone, not by baptism or good
deeds].  He simply acknowledged his own sinfulness and unworthiness, acknowledged Jesus as God, and asked
Jesus to save him so he could get him into Heaven [“…remember me in Your Kingdom”].

The good news is that no matter how bad we've been, we can have the assurance of salvation if we truly turn our
lives over to Jesus, turn away from our sinful behavior, and accept His sacrifice, His payment for our sins.

Here is what the Bible has to say...

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but
have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through
him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already
because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."   John 3:16-18 (NIV)

Person E…
…is a dedicated Muslim.  He prays five times per day and follows all the laws and traditions of his faith.  Will person
E get into heaven?

Answer...NO
I have several Muslim friends and they're wonderful and kind people who take their faith seriously, however, the
Bible is clear as to what is takes to get into Heaven.  The good news for Muslims is that God is not a distant God or
a God that is vengeful...he is a loving God.  He loves people of all faiths including Muslims. He wants to people to
be saved from spending eternity in Hell.

Jesus was not just a prophet but the Son of God.  Jesus offered Himself as a sinless sacrifice.  He died for us so we
can have a close and personal relationship with Him.  Jesus' death bridged the gap, caused by our sin, between us
and God, that was present after the fall of man.  Muslims, just as with all faiths and beliefs that are not Christian,
need to turn their lives over to Jesus to be saved.

Here is what the Bible has to say...
"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Person F…
…believes that Jesus died for all of mankind.  He goes to Church frequently and loves to sing worship songs.  He
does not see the need to personally accept Jesus since he died for all of mankind.  Will person F get into heaven?

Answer...NO
The Bible is clear.  It says that we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.  There will be a judgment
day where we all will be judged,  The price for sin is death.  That is spiritual death.  We are spiritual beings who will
live forever, in physical bodies...the question is whether we will spend eternity in heaven or hell.  We all deserve to
go to hell.  What is heaven like?  Imagine the best day of your life...1 million times better...for eternity.  What's hell
like?  Imagine your worst day...1 million times worse...for eternity.  The good news is that Jesus paid the price by
dying on a cross for us.

By accepting Him, we accept His sacrifice.  If we don't personally accept Him, we deny Him and the sacrifice He paid
for us.  You'll be on your own on judgment day.  Not a pretty picture.  Be afraid...be very afraid.

Let's talk about fairness.  You might say that even though you are guilty as charged, that God should let you off the
hook.  Imagine this.  You're standing in a courtroom having been found guilty of a very serious crime.  The judge
says, "You're guilty as charged. Is there anything you would like to say before sentencing?"  You answer, "Yes
judge.  I'm sorry for what I have done.  Please forgive me.”  Can a good judge let you go simply because you're
sorry?  Say there is a $50,000,000 (that’s billion) fine that needs to get paid.  He would not be a good judge and
would do injustice to the people who got hurt if he just let you go.  Imagine, if you were the one who had been
violated. Would you feel that the judge was fair if he let the guilty person off the hook?  The fine has to be paid and
it might as well be fifty billion dollars, because none of us are able to pay the penalty that we owe to God for our
sins against Him. So, Jesus paid it for us.  If we reject His payment for our sins, then we will have to spend eternity
paying for our sins ourselves.

Here is what the Bible has to say...
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6 (NKJV)

Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she
predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.  This girl followed Paul
and the rest of us, shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be
saved."  She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the
spirit, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!" At that moment the spirit left her.
Acts 16:16-18 (NIV)

Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out, "What do you want with us, Jesus
of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are the Holy One of God!" "Be quiet!" said Jesus
sternly. "Come out of him!"  The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
Mark 1:23-26 (NIV)

And Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the
demons speak because they knew who he was.  Mark 1:34 (NIV)

Person G…
…believes that all of us will go to heaven because God is a merciful and fair God.  Will person G get into heaven?

The Bible is clear.  It says that we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.  There will be a judgement

The good news is that Jesus is offering to pay your penalty.  It's up to you to accept it or reject it.

Here is what the Bible has to say...
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,  Romans 3:23 (NIV)

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 6:23 (NIV)

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you
confess and are saved.  Romans 10:9-10 (NIV)

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the
sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are
waiting for him.  Heb 9:27-28 (NIV)

"Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become
conscious of sin."  Romans 3:20 (NIV)

Person H…
…followed all the 600+ laws and commandments of the Bible that are humanly possible. Will person H get into
heaven?

Answer...NO
The key here is humanly possible.  The Bible is clear.  We all have sinned and fallen short.  Even if we were almost
perfect and broken only one of the laws just one time, we're guilty and will face judgement.

There were these three people that tried to jump from the Long Beach shore to Catalina, which is an island 25
miles of the coast of California.  The first guy takes a good run and jumps 12 feet and falls in the water.  The
second guys says this is nothing and jumps and makes it 20 feet.  The third guy feel that he is an awesome
athlete.  He runs down the pier and just lift off and sets a new world record at 38 feet.  The moral of the story is that
even if your generally a good person, it's like jumping to Catalina.  You might jump even 40 feet, however, you'll be
short of your mark by 24.99 miles by trying to make it by being a good person and even following most of the laws.

Here is what the Bible has to say...
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,  Romans 3:23 (NIV)

"But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;"  Isaiah 64:6 (NKJV)

"Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become
conscious of sin."  Romans 3:20 (NIV)

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by
works, so that no one can boast.”  Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV,)

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things
done while in the body, whether good or bad.  2 Cor 5:10 (NIV)

So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.  Romans 14:12 (NIV)

The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all
who do evil.  They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matt 13:41-42 (NIV)

Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid
in caves and among the rocks of the mountains.  They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide
us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!  For the great day of their wrath has
come, and who can stand?"   Rev 6:15-17 (NIV)

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was
no place for them.  And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened.
Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as
recorded in the books.  The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were
in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done.  Then death and Hades were thrown into the
lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.  If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was
thrown into the lake of fire.  Rev 20:11-15 (NIV)

How shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord,
was confirmed to us by those who heard him.  Heb 2:3 (NIV)

There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will
condemn him at the last day.   John 12:48 (NIV)

Person I…
…said the sinners prayer and accepted Jesus Christ as his savior many years ago.  However, his life never
changed.  He does not read the Bible and has not been to church since the day he accepted Jesus.  Will person I
get into heaven?

Answer...learned people disagree on this point.  Some say that only God knows the heart and if a
person accepted Jesus sincerely, they are saved – but they will not have much of a reward in heaven.
I believe the answer is NO..

When one accepts Christ in his or her life, there needs to be a transformation of the heart.  If we truly accept Jesus,
we want to know more about him.  We would want to read the Bible.  Believe it or not, the numbers are fairly sad
when it comes to people who at an event or church service give their lives over who never follow through.  There
should be some evidence that we're Christians.  Does that mean that you will walk in Christ and never fall down and
sin again...no, however, if you love Christ, you would want to do the right thing.  It is similar in a marriage...if you
love your wife, there will be some evidence that you do.

Here is what the Bible has to say...
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?
James 2:14 (NIV)

Person J…
…had classmates in grade school tell him about Jesus, but he thought those messengers were narrow minded and
angry.  Later in his life others invited him to Jesus but he the other messengers were flawed too.  Will he be able to
say he never heard the Gospel?  Will person J get into heaven?

Answer...NO
Many people say..."what about those people in the jungles of Ecuador who never heard of Jesus...what about those
people?  I can't imagine that they will go to hell."  First of all, God is a just God and will give everyone a chance to
accept him.  However, for most people in this modern age...they have heard of Jesus and either accepted or
rejected him.  I'm sorry, that excuse that we never heard about him won't work for you or I.

Most of the time, the truth is...we just don't want to give up our sinful lifestyle...period.  In addition, as Christians, it is
our duty to tell people about Jesus.

Here is what the Bible has to say...
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:6 (NIV)

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the
very end of the age."  Matt 28:19-20 (NIV)

He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.  Whoever believes and is baptized
will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.  Mark 16:15-16 (NIV)

Who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.  For there is one God and one mediator
between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its
proper time.  1 Tim 2:4-6 (NIV)

Person K...
...accepted Jesus has his personal savior and repented and turned from his sins.  He still makes mistakes,
however, one can see a real difference in his life.  He has a personal relationship with Jesus, reads the bible, is
involved in Church.  He realizes that his good deeds will never get him into heaven, but Jesus' died for him so that
he can.  Will person J get into heaven?

Answer...YES
A real Christian is a person who accepted Jesus as his personal savior...a person who is repentant and turned from
his sinful life...a person of prayer...a person who fears God...a person who realizes that he is lost without God...a
person who seeks God with all their heart...a person with a humble dependence for God...a person who believes he
is a sinner and that Jesus died for him...a person with a righteous zeal...a person with a steadfast obedience...a
person who is repentant if and when he sins...a person who loves God...a person who believes the Bible.

Walking with God is a humbling experience.  The more I know him, the more I realize how amazing god is.  Walking
with God is a process of letting and letting God.  It sure isn't easy to let go of some of our beliefs that we've
invested a lot of time in.  We feel that we'd be missing out if we let go.  What is amazing is that, when we do let go of
those things, God fills that void and we don't feel like we're missing out on anything.  As a matter of fact we feel
freer.  God corrects the people he loves, just like a parent corrects a child that is about to touch a hot flame.  We
need to welcome that pruning process even though it might hurt our pride.

Here is what the Bible has to say...
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing
to God this is your spiritual act of worship.  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is his good,
pleasing and perfect will.  Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.  Isaiah 40:29 (NIV)

if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of
judgment, while continuing their punishment.  2 Peter 2:9 (NIV)

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in
the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.  Gal 2:20 (NIV)

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast
all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.  That is why, for Christ's sake, I
delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Cor 12:9-10 (NIV)

Person L...
...he died many years ago but is trying to work it out in purgatory.  Will person L get into heaven?

Answer...NO
This idea of purgatory makes no sense, simply because you can't work out your own salvation based on works.
Also, the idea of purgatory is that we somehow get a second chance after we die is just not biblical.  The Bible is
clear that we die once and then we're judged.  The same is true of the idea that we can just pray someone into
heaven after they have died...it's just not biblical for the same reason.  We need to pray for people to accept the
lord while they are alive.

Here is what the Bible has to say...
Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the
sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are
waiting for him.  Heb 9:27-28 (NIV)

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by
works, so that no one can boast.”  Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV,)

Person M...
...made some mistakes in this life but hopes to get another chance and be better in the next life.  Will person M get
into heaven?

Answer...NO
I understand why the idea of reincarnation can be appealing – it almost seems to take away all pressures for finding
the truth and consequences for our decisions and actions in this life.  After all, if you are imperfect (according to the
logic of reincarnation) this has been passed on to you from previous lives.  You’ll do your best to get it together in
this life, but if you don’t really find total truth, you’ll just keep recycling until you and the Universe refines you.  So
why push it?!  You’ll get there when you get there!  This is opposite of what the Bible teaches.  “”man is destined to
die once, and after that to face judgment”  Heb 9:27-18  But the misguided concept of Purgatory and of
reincarnation is motivated by one concept that is true…God Almighty is so powerful and awesome that we cannot
be in His presence in an imperfect state.  The only way to fill this gap was to find a perfect One who would pay the
price for our sin (all the ways we have fallen short of the perfection God planned for us).  When we accept this free
gift of salvation provided by Jesus death, Father God actually assigns us Jesus’ perfect record.  Our righteousness
is in Him.  We are perfected in God’s sight, but that not of ourselves, it is a gift of God lest anyone should boast.
