Christ: an Example of Self-Discipline for Us to Follow

Are you doing what you need to do to live the life that God has planned for you? Discipline is the key to releasing the power of God in your life. Discipline is defined as training that corrects, molds, or perfects mental faculties or moral character. It is the foundation for your success, and without it you won’t get very far. According to personal and business success mentor Brian Tracy, “… (I am talking about) the quality of self-discipline. It is a habit, a practice, a philosophy and a way of living. All successful men and women are highly disciplined in the important work that they do. All unsuccessful men and women are undisciplined and unable to control their behaviors and their appetites. And when you develop the same levels of high, personal discipline possessed by the most successful people in our society, you will very soon begin to achieve the same results that they do.”

Discipline in both the natural and spiritual aspect of your life will create habits that lead to prosperity. Dr. Creflo A. Dollar relates to us in his book, 8 Steps to Create the Life You Want, “Disciplining yourself in the areas of prayer, thought life, study of and meditation on God’s word, and speech will position you for success.” As Galatians 6:8 reminds us, “The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
Try the following exercise this week:

1. Identify an area in which you want to become more disciplined.
2. Write down 3 practical steps you can take to become more disciplined.
3. Write down 3 spiritual steps you can take to become more disciplined.

Remember every time that you do something to advance your spiritual growth you are positioning yourself for increase. As it says in Galatians 6:9, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
