Yesterday, the United States celebrated its independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. John Adams had written to his wife Abigail,”It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty”.  The first historical Independence Day occurred in the bible as Adam and Eve willfully declared their independence from God by deciding to do their own thing,and be their own gods.  Man has been enslaved by sin and death ever since.  So often does independence bring enslavement when it does not release us to devote ourselves to God,but releases us to serve ourselves.  We call this is a free country,but we are more enslaved than ever to illegal drugs,pain medications, psychotropic meds, caffeine,nicotine,alcohol,illicit sex, pornography, internet,money and more.  In so many ways it can be clearly seen that man misses his God.  He just doesn’t know it.  He’s too busy being free.
