Who may ascend the hill of the Lord?

¹The earth is the LORD’S, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; ² for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.³Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? 4He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. ⁵He will receive blessing from the LORD, and vindication from God his Savior. ⁶Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, O God of Jacob. Selah. ⁷Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. ⁸Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. ⁹Lift up your heads, O you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. ¹°Who is he, this King of glory? The LORD Almighty — he is the King of glory. Selah. ~Psalm 24

¹The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, which means that we belong to God. Save or lost we are his people.

³Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The Lord has a criterion for anyone who approaches the throne. Who ‘may’ is use in New International version and ‘shall’ is used in the King James verse. The word may means ‘to be able’ and ‘be’ means ‘was and been’ able; which is past tense. Now shall means a future tense, ‘I shall go’. I like using past tense because Jesus Christ died on the cross thousands of years ago and He said, “It is finished”. “It is done.” I can come to the throne anytime and not in future events down the road. I shall eventually get there don’t push me I see the cross in the distance. I know I am exaggerating but there are those who know what I am talking about. Who are still playing outside the gates? You are thinking I have plenty of time to enjoy life. There is a verse that says “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (Matthew 7:13, 14)

Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?

4He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. David who wrote this Psalm was sharing with you that if you want to worship and serve the Lord your God; you need to pursue God with a pure heart and a righteous life. How can we live this pure life when every time we want to do something good evil is there? (Romans 7:18-20) We have a sinful nature that is bound by law but if we cry out to God what a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God— through Jesus Christ our Lord! (Romans 7:24-25) Thanks be, to God that Jesus Christ died to save whoever knocks. Repent and believe on Jesus Christ you will receive the Holy Spirit.

Because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2-4) God send his son Jesus Christ to die in our place so we could live a life without the misery of sin. God gave us hope of a better life when He sent his son to the cross to crush sin once and for all. Another reason Jesus Christ died was for us to receive His Spirit; the Holy Spirit is our connection to Jesus Christ and to God. Holy Spirit comes inside us to set us free from the power of sin. Are you feeling wretched? Maybe you lack the power of the Holy Spirit living inside you. Repent and believe on Jesus Christ.

This past week I have been learning about ‘self-control’. Reading scriptures one night on self-control I woke up the following morning with this picture to what is means to have self-control. The picture was: I see myself and my hands are tied behind my back and on my mouth I see one large disc and in front of that I see one small ball.

The new eating regime has been hard going and I have been finding it difficult to just buy what’s on my list. Huge cravings for hot dogs, macaroni, chocolate, etc…all things not on my list; and wheat is in everything. My renew group has been praying for me and I realized that I do not want to be focus on food. Do not want to set my mind on food that could become an idol.

My hands are tied and my mouth heavy armed with a cuff; thinking nothing is getting into my mouth or unto my hand so I thought. I went to the grocery store and saw the picture of self-control with a bag of potato chips in front of it. I thought the Lord said “I can get potato chips”. WRONG! I thought this is a learning curve for me but really ‘no’. I wanted those potato chips. There is nothing wrong with potato chips in and of itself; but, what potato chips or want represent in our life. We want this and that and we have this appetite that dictates our lifestyle choices; that can be harmful to our relationship with Jesus Christ. Are we reading the Bible and going to church or are we only reading what we want and going when we want. Are we setting the boundaries on our relationship with Christ or are we enjoying that special time we have together . Do we look forward to going to church or has it become a drudgery? Are you ascending to the throne room or are you playing with fire. The Lord doesn’t like lukewarm believers; they will be throw into the fire. (Rev. 3:16)

⁵He will receive blessing from the LORD, and vindication from God his Savior.

Those who pursue holiness and rightful living receives a blessing from the Lord. We will be justified in Christ Jesus and reign with Him. If we want the blessings of the Lord we need to restrain ourselves from the idols of our hearts.

What does restrain look like:

•Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship. ²Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Romans 12:1-2)

•The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. (1Peter 4:7)

•Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control. (Proverbs 25:28)

•But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)

•Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get the crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. ²⁶Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. ²⁷No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. (1Corinthians 9:25-27)

⁶Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, O God of Jacob. Selah. ⁷Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.

Faithful believers must pray and seek God’s face for the “King of glory” will come. We need to pray for God’s kingdom to come and God’s will be done; for we are anticipating Jesus Christ’s eternal reign and the end of evil. (Zec. 9:9; Mt. 6:10; Rev 19-22) How is God going to know you if you do not seek God’s face during good and bad times. The Lord wants us ready, keep your light burning. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.(Matthew 25:1-13)

Selah.

Who is the King of glory in your life? Is he the Lord strong and mighty or is he ‘you’ in control and riddle with problems. Choose this day whom you should follow…a King who turns water into wine or a human who will die and go to hell. Just realize this: the earth is the LORD’s and everything in it. The Lord is in control of everything and if He draws you kicking and screaming to His side there is nowhere to hide you. In Psalm’s it says where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? I f I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. (Psalm 139:7-10)

Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? 4He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false.

In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. ~Proverbs 16:9

Thank you, Lord that you direct us in where we should go. Thank you, Lord that my eyes are on you and you are guiding my hands and my mouth. Thank you, Lord that you die on the cross so that we will find eternal rest.

I pray that your people will humbly pray for your will be done and kingdom come and that you will reign in our hearts. I pray that you will show us where we have idols in our lives so that we can pursue holiness and righteous living. I pray that we seek your face in prayer for the people around us that are hurting. Let us, be a praying nation that ushers in the King of glory. In Jesus Christ name I pray, Amen.
