Worthless idols forfeit grace

“Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. ~Jonah 2:8

When I was a child, I talked like a child. I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. ~1Corinthians 13:11

First, you must understand this: In the last days people who follow their own desires will appear. These disrespectful people will ridicule God’s promise by saying, “What’s happened to his promise to return? Ever since our ancestors died, everything continues as it did from the beginning of the world.” ~2Peter 3:3

In these last days the desires of our flesh will grow stronger and the desire to live like Jesus Christ will be hinder by our own desires to get ahead.

You lose grace when you follow after the idols in your heart. Jesus says in His word “But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean’… (Matthew 15:18-19)

Realize this: that our hearts will deceive us and we will think that Jesus Christ told us to do this but it is our sinful heart that has made us stumble.  The word says we need to examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you –unless, of course, you fail the test? (2Corinthians 13:5)

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21)

“The Lord knows those who belong to him,” and “Whoever worships the Lord must give up doing wrong.” In a large house there are not only objects made of gold and silver, but also those made of wood and clay. Some objects are honored when they are used; others aren’t. Those who stop associating with dishonorable people will be honored. They will be set apart for the master’s use, prepared to do good things. (2 Tim 2:19-21)

We are called to put away our childish desires so we can grow to maturity:

  • Brothers, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thoughts be adults. (1Corinthians 14:20)
  • Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ…(Ephesians 4:14-16)
  • In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! (Hebrews 5:12-13)
  • Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (2 Timothy 2:22)
  • Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, (1Peter 2:2)

The Lord God says in his word there you will worship man made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell. But iffrom there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him. (Deuteronomy 4:28-30) You will know God and His righteousness if you earnestly seek Him with all your heart.

The Lord knows our hearts we cannot fool him into thinking that we are all in. Scoffers will come and mock God’s promises and will you stand for Christ. Peter one of the apostle’s denials Jesus Christ three times when Jesus goes to the cross. Peter caved in when He needed to be the strongest and the Lord forgave him. (Matthew 26:69-75; John 21:15-19) Peter did not have the Holy Spirit to help him through his ordeal but you can.

Know this:

  • …that God never leaves us or forsakes us ~Hebrews 13:5
  • anything is possible when we cling to Christ ~Matthew 19:26
  • If God is for us, who can be against us ~Romans 8:31
  • the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world ~1John 4:4
  • Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. ~John 8:35- 36

God doesn’t leave us but we leave God. We think when we sin we are not worthy to be in God’s presence. The word says “I will never leave you. I struggle with this too; until I realize that when I asked Jesus Christ to come into my life. He was there for keeps He was not going anywhere. (Ephesians 4:30)

Repent and believe that anything is possible when we cling to Christ. Call on his name Jesus Christ and find refuge in His arms.

Few great people from the Bible that the Lord God used:

  • David a boy who attended to his father’s sheep slew a giant with a slingshot ~1Samuel 17:40-49
  • Moses a murder who also stutter went before Pharaoh and ask “to let my people go” ~Exodus 5:1
  • Hadassah a Jewish orphan becomes Queen Esther to save her people from annihilated ~Esther

May you not continue to sin but throw off the chains of sin and embrace forgiveness? The idols in your life rob you of your grace. Do you want to hear ‘I do not know you’? That phrase ‘I do not know you’ is gut reckoning. I know because I heard God tell me (Thirsty). I sought God with all my heart, soul, and mind until I came to the end of myself and died to self. I repented and believe on Jesus Christ.

Repent and Believe

I believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and I believe that you rose from the dead and you reign with God. I confess each one of my sins to you…

Cleanse me Lord with your blood for my sins. Thank you, Lord for forgiving me. Come Jesus Christ live in me I give up my control of my life and I ask you to lead and train me in the truth of God’s word. I receive your Holy Spirit surrendering my life and taking up my cross to follow you. Have your way Lord in me. In Jesus Christ name I pray.

God’s grace given

May you know more and more of grace and peace as your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord grows deeper. He has by His own action given us everything that is necessary for living [a godly life] in allowing us to know the one who has called us to him, through his own glorious goodness. (2 Pet 1:2-3)

Be self-controlled and vigilant always… and after you have borne these sufferings a very little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to share his eternal splendour through Christ, will himself make you whole and secure and strong. All power is his for ever and ever, amen! I am sending this short letter… to stimulate your faith and assure you that the above words represent the true grace of God. See that you stand fast in that grace! (1 Pet 5:8-12)

Let us stand firm for Christ when our faith is shaken. Resist the devil and He will flee. (James 4:7) Read the Bible and memorize scriptures so that you can withstand the scoffers. Pray and be led by the Holy Spirit to a Bible believing church. Trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and He will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5, 6)

I pray that you will make your stand for Christ and not be led astray by friends who are unbelievers. I pray Lord you will bring new believing friends for your children so they can learn to reflect your grace. Thank you Father, for the blood that was shed on the cross for us; that we are free indeed. So that your name Jesus Christ will be glorified in all the earth. In Jesus Christ name I pray. Amen.
