Are You that Faithful and Wise Servant?

“So he called him in and asked him, What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.”        (Luke 16:2).

The character and actions of a godly steward stand in stark contrast to that of the unjust steward.  ( See also Luke 16:10-13 )

A steward is one who serves as an administrator or a manager over another person’s business affairs.  Every person no matter how rich or poor, can be an effective steward of the blessings that God has given to him/her.  We are all responsible to Him for the proper usage of “God’s Property.”   Every good thing you have is a gift from God.

All good stewards do the following:

1) look to the future — does not just live for the pleasure of the moment
2) are disciplined and patient — “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”   (Galatians 6:9)
3) take risks for the benefit of the boss — these are prayed-over and carefully thought-out risks. **

Money can not buy our way into heaven, yet our use of the resources we have been entrusted with gives insight into our relationship with God. An individual’s earthly stewardship tells us much about the true nature of that person’s character.  We cannot truly serve God if we believe that our security and hope lies in the things we accumulate instead of on God who gives them to us.
When we follow God’s plan for our lives, even if we lose some of it on earth, we can still gain much more in heaven!

Are you that faithful and wise servant being described here in Luke 12:42-43 ?

“The Lord answered, Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns.”

Don’t let anyone convince you that you can’t do what God expects of you.  A steward has authentic responsiblility and carries it out faithfully.  By God’s grace, you can do what He has planned for you.
