Where Can Wisdom Be Found…

Where can wisdom be foundWho can speak and have it happen if the Lord has not decreed it? Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that both calamities and good things come?  Lamentations 3:37-38

For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.  1 Corinthians 2:11-13

“But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? Man does not comprehend its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living. The deep says, ‘It is not in me’; the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’ It cannot be bought with the finest gold, or can its price be weighed in silver.  Job 28:12-15

My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.  For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.  Proverbs 2:1-6

Nuggets of Wisdom   … spread the Word

Yeah, I guess I’m one of THOSE guys

Looking back over the past couple years and realizing that no matter how much I am becoming the man I want to be, sometimes the Man I didn’t want to be shows up.

It’s the awkward touchy feely things that make me uncomfortable around some situations, so when I’m standing on the side of the road hugging a homeless man after somehow I get him to voice his anger at God.  He cries/better yet/ wails into my shoulder.  The thought in my head “what the frell am I doing here?”

Earlier that year a Woman organizes a “prayer drive though” Corporate prayer is not my thing (please leave it at that) So I’m in the side of I 35 holding the signs, “Jesus Loves you”, and “free prayer”.  Again the thought in my head “what the frell am I doing here?”

The most shocking was early in my walk I was on mission to Biloxi. We were invited to join a small southern baptist church for wed night service, I did not want to go, I heard there was another church that played rock & more contemporary music.  I decided to got to the smaller church with the rest of my team. it was beautiful we walked in and they were all singing songs, no music or “hymnals” a lady sitting in front would sing a verse the rest of the people would follow.  It was beautiful so I just opened my bible and enjoyed the songs.  Then…. they stopped singing, the lady leading the worship looked over at our group and said “y’all…sing something”.  I jumped up in front of the whole church and sang “your love is amazing” 1 verse and the chorus, solo, a’capella, when I finished singing my Mission team looked like deer in headlights, I sat down and said to my team “that never leaves this room”.

Sometimes being worried about appearing to be one of those “wierd” people may deter us from experiencing something great or doing something great.

There are those who would “berate” people with the message “God loves you”. But I’ve been in in a bar talking to someone, and at the right point in the conversation I told a person just that. the reaction while still a little awkward was also met with gratitude.

Maybe it’s not so much what we say or do that turns people off.  But how we say it, why we say it, and what actions go with our words.  Is there meaning in it or is it just platitudes.

Not really sure how to tie this one up.   I guess there are 2 points… I think if we are living out our faith …to the full, there should be some “aw crap what am I doing here” type moments.  The second part is up for a longer debate.  Do we seek out these moments or allow them to be truly Spirit led… or do we constantly chase the wild goose (what Celtics (not the NBA Celtics) called the Holy Spirit), and thus mix the line between intentionality and spontaneity?

When The Music Stopped

We were dancing

When the music stopped

I wondered where it had gone

I tried

to listen

to discern

What had happened to the beautiful music that had once played

The music that had

kept me

held me

Embraced me with so much love

I did not know where to turn

What would happen next

Would all the life be gone

Would I wake up and see that I was just another

Virgin without a lamp

Would I find out that I had

Chosen the wrong way

Taken a wrong turn

Taken my eyes off the One I love

Will I be the one

Who’s left

Never seeing

Never perceiving

Never knowing

Never Trusting

No I will NOT

Let this be said of me

I will be the one who

listens

hears

knows

I will be the one

giving

dancing

To the beautiful music

I will be the one embracing the One I love so…

Allow me this once more

To hear the music

Give me the freedom in You once more

To feel the rythm

To know the beat

To hear what others don’t

To walk that walk

Dance that dance

Love that love that I have known

The Problem of Evil!

The Problem of Evil

Since the beginning of time, there has been a war raging in the cosmos. It is a war that starts in heaven when Lucifer decides that he wants to be God. Lucifer was God’s most beautiful creation. He walked before the throne room daily and was considered an archangel. But Lucifer became jealous of God, and it was out of that jealously that Lucifer convinced one third of the angels to join his efforts to overthrow God and become God himself. It was at this point He ceased being an archangel and became the Prince of Darkness. The Devil’s revolt resulted in him being cast out of Heaven by God and ever since Satan and God have been enemies.

In our time we look forward to the day that evil will no longer hold sway in the world. We long for a heaven on earth. And one day there will be a new heaven and a new earth. But until that day comes when evil is finally no longer, evil still remains and causes much pain on the earth. In God’s original creation everything that God created was good. In fact for a time, humanity itself knew no sin. Then man sinned, and evil manifested itself into the world. Evil can be defined “as the refusal to accept the true God as God. True evil elevates itself or another to replace God.” The question often arises, if God being holy and just knew that evil and sin would come to the earth than why did He not prevent it or stop it? There are three reasons why God allows evil to continue in the world and they are the following: 1.) God created man with free will and thus gave man the ability to choose to accept Him or reject Him, 2.) The fact that evil and suffering is so prevalent in our lives reveals the fact that we have our own inadequacies and that we need God, and 3.) God allows evil because He does not want His children to get used to the present life because as the Bible says, we are just pilgrims and sojourners passing through and as believers, Heaven is our final eternal state.
God created man with free will and thus gave man the ability to choose to accept Him or reject Him. God did not create evil. God did create persons with freedom who could practice it. So we are who actualize evil, not Him. He could have created a world without the possibility of evil, but He preferred a world with free choice. God created us with the power of choice. To quote from Ravi Zacharias,
“What would it take to create a loving world void of evil? A world in which love is capable of meaningful expression and experience would also imply a world in which there is choice. If someone tells you that they love you, those words mean something because they are freely given. If you learned that someone had told you they loved you but that they had been forced to say it, their words would not mean very much. Thus, if we want to speak of a loving world, we must also speak of a world in which choices are exercised. And in such a world, there is also the possibility of choosing a course of action that is not loving, i.e. evil.”
True love implies and demands a free choice! Or else you would have a fixed environment in which humanity would be robots. Alvin Plantinga claimed the following:
“If God creates human beings with true, morally significant free will (where humans can freely decide to act in ways that really do advance goodness in the world, or really do cause evil in the world against self, others or world), and if God wants a world in which there are significant amounts of moral goodness, it’s possible that God cannot get that kind of world without significant amounts of moral badness as well. After all, if people are left free by God, then the morally significant states of the world will in large part be up to the decisions of humans, not up to God.”

The fact that evil and suffering is so prevalent in our lives reveals the fact that we have our own inadequacies and that we need God. Simply put, all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. When Adam and Eve sinned, God promised that one day there would be one coming that would be a sacrifice for sin and would make a way for people to have there relationship restored to God. That was done when Jesus died on Calvary. Jesus took all of humanities sins, and bore them for all of humanity so that people might have a chance to be saved and inherit eternal life. We see here that “Christ’s atonement guarantees the final end of evil and suffering”. Alcorn says, “The drama of evil and suffering in Christ’s sacrifice addresses the very heart of the problem of evil and suffering. One day it will prove to be the final answer.” The answer to the problem of evil and suffering according to Alcorn,“is not a philosophy, but a Person; not words, but the Word.” Jesus Christ is the answer to the problem of evil. Only He can help us with the feeling of inadequacies and the feelings of hopelessness. Only He can save humanity from their sins. Only Jesus can provide true lasting peace.
God allows evil because He does not want His children to get used to the present life because as the Bible says, we are just pilgrims and sojourners passing through and as believers, Heaven is our final eternal state. If everything was perfect and no problems ever surfaced and there was no pain in life then people would not have to rely upon God anymore for anything. Alcorn points out that “in order to appreciate our eternal future, we will remember the sufferings of the present.” Because we have pain and suffering, we must rely upon an Almighty God. Human beings do not have all the answers. Dinesh D’ Sousa writes.

The only way for us to really triumph over evil and suffering is to live forever in a place where those things do not exist. It is the claim of Christianity that there is such a place and that is available to all who seek it. No one can deny that, if this claim is true, then evil and suffering are exposed as temporary hardships and injustices. They are as transient as our brief, mortal lives. In that case God has shown us a way to prevail over evil and suffering, which are finally overcome in the life to come.”

So in reality, in the big picture evil and suffering is only temporary. So every trial and every tribulation that we may face in life is well worth it, because one day those that believe in Jesus will receive new resurrected bodies that will no longer be corrupted. We will be in Heaven where Jesus is, and there will be no more sin. Revelation 21:1-7 best illustrates what will happen in the end: 1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
In conclusion, we have seen the three reasons why God allows evil to exist in our present world. According to Ed Hindson and Emir Caner,
“What evil forces us to conclude is either God is not good, or that our conception of God’s relationship toward us needs serious rethinking. The evidence about evil drives us decisively to this latter conclusion. God uses evil, suffering, and disorder to drive us to Himself. If He gave only good, we would be self-satisfied. If he had given immediate death when we sinned, He would be just. That He gives us partial goodness and partial suffering now forms a texture of hope that in the future, He will in fact make all things right in a final consummation and restoration. God is not through: He will continue to work on us, like a persistent sculptor working the metal with hard blows and constant lighter corrections, to help us become worthy of happiness if we receive Him and submit to His plan. On most occasions, it seems, we do not know why God allows certain evils. But we know someone who knows these things, and we can therefore trust Him to make good on His promise that “he who began a good work in us will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

The Path To Wisdom

The Path to Wisdom …

“There is a mine for silver and a place where gold is refined. Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore. Man puts an end to the darkness; he searches the farthest recesses for ore in the blackest darkness. He tunnels through the rock; his eyes see all its treasures. He searches the sources of the rivers and brings hidden things to light.

“But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? Man does not comprehend its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living. It cannot be bought with the finest gold, nor can its price be weighed in silver. Coral and jasper are not worthy of mention; the price of wisdom is beyond rubies.

“Where then does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell? It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing, concealed even from the birds of the air. God understands the way to it and he alone knows where it dwells, And he said to man, The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, (reverence for God) and to shun evil is understanding.’ ”

Job 28:1-3, 10-13 15, 18, 20-21, 23, 28

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One (Jesus) is understanding. Proverbs 9:10

The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.  Proverbs 15:33

Warm, Flat Coke

A couple years ago I was on mission in Mexico. On the final night the Church we were partnering with had a long service. On this night my friend decided to buy a ice cold coke for a young local girl (maybe 9). This being a rare treat for her she gladly took it but nursed it down slowly. Later in the church service she pulled the bottle out, She offered a drink the same man who bought it earlier. He knew by now it had been shaken in dance, was room temp (close to 90), and maybe 50% backwash.

What a parable, God gives us everything, absolutely everything we have. We take it we use it and then we “offer” it to God, like it is something great. when in all reality it’s just a warm flat soda.

So to finish the story, My friend took the Coke and took a drink with a smile, not out of duty or guilt, but knowing this was all She had, and all she had to ofter, and she offered it in Love.

I know God Does the same thing. He accepts what we offer in joy, when we are offering in love, not just out of duty or ceremony.

Follow me….ish part 2

Back in my post Follow me….ish I talked about how some “holy” people and “teachers” use bits and pieces of scripture to lead people astray. Right now I am in the middle of reading the new testament in 1 year and yesterdays reading was Romans 16. Honestly its kinda the dullest chapter in Romans to me because its “tell everyone I said hi” over and over again and give this person hugs and kisses etc…. but then smack in the middle Paul says “One final word of counsel, friends. Keep a sharp eye out for those who take bits and pieces of the teaching that you learned and then use them to make trouble. Give these people a wide berth. They have no intention of living for our Master Christ. They’re only in this for what they can get out of it, and aren’t above using pious sweet talk to dupe unsuspecting innocents.” Back when I was teaching the children the inportance of reading for yourself I pulled the example of the bible saying “throw yourself off this cliff”, and it does, but it is taken out of context when it stands alone. This can be done from the smallest scale (a phrase) to large scale (whole chapters or books). So if you’re a seeker or follower, I encourage you to read the Bible on your own, or with a small group. make sure what you’re being taught is actually there, and be able to put it in context, who wrote it, who was it written to, why was it written. I am walking talking proof that any “common man” can do it… you need not go to seminary or be a theologian to learn and live what it teaches.

The Spirit of God

The Spirit of God

John 14:15-17  … ”If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

1 Corinthians 2:13-14  … This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit (of God) does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Ezekiel 11:19-20 … I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.

1 Corinthians 2:6-12 ,,, We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age (when Jesus walked on the Earth) understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written:  ”No eye has seen,  no ear has heard,  no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him” but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.       Isaiah 64:4 The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him?  (you know you better than anyone)  In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.  ( I can’t give you my spirit, but God gives us his Spirit so we can understand what he has freely given us)

John 16:12-14 … ”I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes,  he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.

Colossians 1:25-27 … I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Romans 8:26-27  …  In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints (believers throughout all time) in accordance with God’s will.

Romans 8:9-11 … You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 … Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

John 4:23-24 …  Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, (through the Holy Spirit according to the truth revealed in God’s Word) for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 … Now the Lord is the Spirit, (The Spirit is God  is the Spirit of Christ) and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Colossians 3:12-17  … Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ (God’s revealed Word found in the Bible) dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Stiff Necked

This came from the outstretched arm of Perfection. This is a testimony and a lesson from God that I just have to share with the brethren. Some good food here. If you’re stiff necked as I am and disobey God, check this out -

I was looking at these verses after a flood of constant messages from the Lord about the voice of the Lord, the Angel’s voice, hearing from God, etc.

James1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does -

There are many times when I’m tempted by something, I will hear the Lord’s word, but I will ignore it (I hear it – seeing myself in the mirror, but I turn away, forgetting what I heard/saw). And when I forget what I heard, I commit an act of sin. Stiff necked! On the flip side, just as my previous postings have mentioned, He has also shown me that when I obey the voice of the Lord, blessings pour out. What a valuable lesson from God here.

Matthew 7:26“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

I would hear, not do… the temptation came (winds and floods of thought), and great was my fall (sin). The temple is built on nothing. I realized at this moment that I did not have a relationship with Christ, again, stiff necked!

I examine these things in me… and I ask questions. I ask, “Why would I do such a thing with this knowledge He has blessed me with?” So I prayed…and during my prayer, it popped out. It may be obvious to the reader, but for me, it was hidden until I examined. I noticed that at the moment of choice, with the information of His voice and the temptation, I choose the temptations at times because I love them more than I love obeying the Lord’s voice. What a huge lesson from God. Even though this is a hard confession to make in prayer, but I knew He already knew.. It was truth. I said “Lord, I am stiff necked Israel..  Help me.  I need to be built on the Rock and my relationship isn’t there.. I am stiff necked”. The lesson started to come from God..

Matthew 7:24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

Oh, this is important. Around a year ago, I had a dream… and have not understood it until now. I was standing outside my church in the yard on a sunny day. All of a sudden, the light from the sun got extremely bright.  I looked up and saw a huge golden glowing sun, bright as ever. While looking at it, dark lines started to get drawn on the sun, blocking out the light.  As I watched these lines and things get filled in, I started to see an artery, a vein, and bam..the sun was covered with a beating human heart.

So after my prayer… about being stiff necked and the lack of a relationship with Jesus, I went about my normal reading of the word in my already planned daily devotionals. Around 2 weeks later, He started to answer… and this is where it gets really good. I read a direct answer to my prayer -

Deut 10:16 Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff necked no longer.

I then prayed, and said “How do I circumcise my heart Lord?  What do I do?” The lesson from God came a few days later in my readings of Deut:
Deut 6 And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.

Immediately, the following verse popped into my head:

John 15:1 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

The Lord will circumcise. The Lord is the pruner. I prayed, “Lord, circumcise the foreskin of my heart. Prune me as you say you will. What is my part?” Immediately, I start dwelling on this.. Pruning shears.. Circumcision knife.. Sharp object… SWORD OF THE SPIRIT.

Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

Heb4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

…and there are quite a few other verses like this, for example… there’s a couple of times when Jesus and Peter were speaking the word of God and the listeners were ‘cut to the heart’.

The word of God is the shears..the knife.. the sword…that will cut, circumcise, prune…  Watch this -

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Then one of the final words I get on this brought everything full circle, which was also in Deut 30 -

Deuteronomy 30:11 “For this commandment which I command you today istoo mysterious for you, nor is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that you not should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14 But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.

I received the answer on the dream.. “..and the life was the light of men… and the light shines in the darkness.”  See, the darkened human heart was a foreskin over the True Light.  The true heart, the light of a man, which is in the heart, never goes any where.  It is covered up, masked… by society, by worldly things.  The Word, Jesus…He’s the knife.  The Father is the vinedresser, the pruner. The darkness gets cut away by reading the Word.. and the True Light is still there and will start shining through.

He answered my stiff necked, my relationship with Christ and many other things… with this lesson. It all pointed to the Word and Christ.  Of course, prayer.. the Spirit and the Father are all doing their part.  Blessed be the Trinity!

I pray this word from God continues to work in me and others.. May His blessed seed be protected and be implanted on good ground.  Lord, the Tiller, please prepare the ground of the hearts of the readers before they begin reading this.. I pray and speak to the evil one, let His people go in the name of Jesus Christ.  It is His will that all are saved. In the authority I have as a royal priesthood, I take this authority in-Christ and I saith to you mountain… I saith to you satan, be cursed and cast into the sea.  In Jesus name, amen..amen..amen.

Keep it Simple Servant

Boy, do I over complicate things. Keep It Simple Servant! Faith and obedience, it’s really that simple.

Obedience is an action – Moses, strike the Nile with your rod. Raise your rod Moses. Strike the rock with your rod Moses. March around Jericho 7 times and shout. Lepers, go show the priest you are healed. Pick up your mat and walk. Keep it simple servant – Have faith and choose God, hear His word, then take an action in obedience. Simple enough, right? It only gets complicated after my ideas start to get involved. I end up trying to figure things out myself (Proverbs 3:5-8). When I do this, I have walked right into the war zone, Spirit vs Flesh -

How do you answer that question?

A while back I was at Jiffy Lube, sitting in the waiting room…waiting. I was on facebook when the lady next to me asked what People do on facebook. I told her I’m doing a daily bible reading and posting my thoughts on what I read that day. Then the conversation got interesting.. She asked me if I thought I was better because I was a Christian. Then proceeded to explain to me how a contractor she used had the “fish” on his card and proceeded to dupe her out of money(the whole fish or cross as a marketing device is another topic). I told her it sucked when people do that and apologized for “Christians” in general. Then she asked again “do you think you’re better because your a Christian?”   What tumbled through my head was few answers. one being yes, the bible says I am, I mean of coarse I am, I have the creator of the universe residing in me, of coarse I’m better than someone who doesn’t, but that didn’t come out.  Thank you God. I actually kind of flipped it “define good, your version of good, the worlds version of good, or God’s version of good? cause I figure on the world’s version I’m way above Hitler, but far below Gandhi. I can tell you this, I’m better than I was for sure!! I sometimes judge myself against other Christians and realize that scale is even broken… I don’t know what their starting points were, what trash was in their lives that isn’t now, what they are still battling.” at this time I realized I went into my not so famous “preacher mode” and had an audience of about 5.

So I closed with this “I know this, I’m not good, but I know the one who is, and I try everyday to follow him, and when I do, and when I’m obedient, not just good things, but awesome things happen” as if on Que the guy called my name handed me my keys and I walked out.

Redefining Radical

I like the term radical, it’s been given a bad reputation when tied to religion. We constantly hear about “radical religious” people doing harm, protesting at funerals, even murder, all in the name of God. However when I read the Bible I see a different type of Radicalism. Isaiah 58 (that’s Old Testament for those who think the Old Testament is hell fire and damnation) talks a lot about the wrong/right way to be radical.

Free those who are wrongly imprisoned;
lighten the burden of those who work for you.
Let the oppressed go free,
and remove the chains that bind people.
Share your food with the hungry,
and give shelter to the homeless.
Give clothes to those who need them,
and do not hide from relatives who need your help.

I know there are a lot of don’ts in the Bible and we tend to focus on these, there are a lot of do’s in there also. I try to live my life focusing on how the Bible tells me to act in love. Odd thing it’s actually easier to focus on the don’ts. If you love someone, you don’t steal from him, don’t lie about him, don’t sleep with his wife, and don’t murder him (see the Ten Commandments) easy right? Basically if you can ignore that your neighbor exists, you can do these. Now the do’s, those are extreme, just a few, feed him, forgive him, fight for him, listen to him, cry with him, share what you’ve worked so hard for with him. The list is a lot longer than that. And a radical will not just do these things but seek out opportunities to do them.

We have all seen radicals on both sides of this coin, which one do you think is changing the world?(even if it is only 1 persons world) Which do you think is pleasing God?

God helps those that help themselves

2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

In my humble opinion, the phrase ‘God helps those that help themselves‘ is a lie from man. For me, it is no different than these other phrases that are used to tickle the ears of the flesh: God hates sin but loves the sinner, God just wants me to be happy, God created it, so it must be good, I’m not hurting anyone so it is ok, etc.

I posted the other day a copy of a blog post: Who is God? It’s a quick read if you have a moment. The context is about not leaning on our own understanding of God, but to lean on who God says He is. There is a lot of deception out there by man and even our own thoughts and reasoning can deceive ourselves. We should be very thoughtful, wise, and watchful so that we do not allow our understanding of God to trump His Truth. We should examine everything and place every thought into captivity.

In this post, I’m going to discuss why ‘God helps those that help themselves’ is  a deception -

Where do I get the information to support my statements that this statement is a lie and a deception? The Word of God speaks for Himself. A bunch more scripture could be posted, but here’s a couple:

Ephesians 2:1-9 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

2 Corinthians 10:17-18 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

Romans 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Titus 3:3-7 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Isaiah 25:4 For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.

These are spiritual things, pertaining to our souls. When someone says ‘God helps those that help themselves’, they are speaking things of the flesh, works, deeds, etc. The scripture seems pretty clear, God loves us and helps us because we are helpless without Him. Praise God!

There are other catch phrases that are very deceptive, such as ‘God just wants me to be happy!’ It’s very deceptive because it sounds good to the ears. Of course, without a doubt, God wants us to be happy and enjoy life. This phrase is very dangerous deception. There is a fake enjoyment and happiness (one of the flesh), and a real enjoyment and happiness (one of God).

I have heard this many times in life (and have probably used it too) from friends, in the context of talking about drinking, having sex outside of marriage, and other things that are contrary to what God commands – “It’s fun, and I’m enjoying my life. What’s wrong with that? I’m not hurting anyone. God just wants me to be happy! I’m happy and enjoying life doing these things, what’s wrong with that?!” Ugh, Lord, I pray for eyes to see, ears to hear and hearts to receive your truth.

The truth is that all of these things are selfish ambitions (the motive is glorification of self). Also, they are 100% contrary to God. The truth of the matter is that God wants us to be Holy. What does the Lord say? -

Leviticus 19:1-2 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.

Leviticus 20:7-8 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I amam the LORD which sanctify you. the LORD your God. And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I

2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

1 Peter 1:13-16 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

When we are walking with the Lord, in agreement, then oh boy. TRUE joy will flow. Not happiness as we understand in the flesh, but the joy of the Lord will fill us. His joy is not based around a worldly happiness, i.e. nice home, green grass, new car, perfect relationship, making tons of money in a desired career, glorifying the flesh with sex, drugs, drinking, etc. His joy is of spiritual things. Smiling in the storms of life, a sense of contentment, surrounded by peace, because the Lord is with thee! It’s truly a blessed place to be.

Surely, the Lord pours blessings on us, such as a Godly marriage, a comfortable home, a dependable car, etc. but these are a result of being in a right standing with God. We have to be very careful on this because we can focus on blessings of God and end up doing righteous works, which are not of God but of selfish motives. (We obey merely to get something in return, which is ungodly/selfish). It all starts with a right heart for God. Yes, we will receive blessings, praise God. If that’s why we are doing what we do, it’s a glorification of self still. I have done this myself, Lord forgive me and renew a right spirit within me. Ok, I’m going off on a tangent.. :)

The phrase ‘God helps those that help themselves’ is a lie. The only action we take is to believe in the Son of God, die to self, place Him Lord over our lives, surrender, etc. But even this action, it’s God helping us through the Holy Spirit. Salvation is of the Lord. He alone jolts the souls. The real translation of this phrase should be:

God helps us because we cannot help ourselves

Praise God, thank you Lord for helping us. We were once lost, but we are now found. We were once dead in our sins, but we are now alive. Praise God.

Wisdom and Choice

Choose wisely students of life! “Learn the lesson or retake the course, it’s that simple.” – Nate Elarton

Introduction:

Let us go deep! Examining ourselves can be very deceptive because we may be blind to certain hindrances in our lives. These hindrances can get involved in the examination process, thus we deceive ourselves. We desire to grow in understanding life and grow in wisdom, but our mind’s eye needs new glasses – the scales need to be removed for a better choice to be made. I urge any seekers of truth to be watchful, pray, take your time, do not trust yourself, and examine everything. When I say do not trust yourself, I say it for very good reason. Allow me to explain -

In my experience, as well as through discussing with others, something very interesting has been revealed (Wisdom). The things we are about to discuss can be foolishness and/or may not be seen because they are contrary to humanistic molds that are upon us (the blinders of self/pride). As mentioned, the very thing this article speaks about is the very thing that will prevent someone from seeing clearly. The blinders, which do not want to be removed, will do whatever it can to stay in tact. If the blinders are removed, we will see that the truth we had once believed is actually a lie. This can become very disturbing to our conscious. We have always worn the these same glasses when viewing the world, it is all we know. Often, our thoughts of life are derived from what the world has taught us. Because of this, it is all we have seen, all we have known, and all we believe in. As far as we’re concerned, what we currently know and experience in life is the truth.

When the blinders are removed (a new choice), there could be a disturbance that feels like we’re on the brink of insanity, but then great peace comes in. The justifying statements we make in life, the blaming of others, the excuses we make to protect ourselves, the foolish stress, depression, etc., all will come to light and be exposed. The blinders will be removed and this causes us to see the real truth, thus everything we thought we were is revealed as a complete sham and a new choice is born. Pride does not want that to happen. The blinders mentioned are our ego, pride, self, flesh, etc. Keep this in mind – Pride does not want to be discovered. Pride will protect itself at all costs. The only way pride can start to crumble is through humility. Once we can admit that we don’t have all the answers and that there are possible challenges in our philosophy, bam, doorways have cracked open. Pride/Man/Flesh/Satan birthed pride, and humility died. It is time to reverse it, turn things back upright, and get this truth revealed. Wisdom and Choice.

Please keep in mind that I’m spiritual and believe in the Son of man. I’m revealing what the Lord has revealed to me. I speak on behalf of spiritual things and not things of man or self. There is a spiritual war going on for our souls and He has helped me in this fight, which I pass on to the reader. If you’ve made it this far and you’re thinking “this is a joke”, then I urge you to put to death the pride and force yourself to continue reading. Freedom is around the corner. The only way to see the kingdom of God is to be born again. Put to death self, and revive righteousness. Only God can do this for you through the His Son the Savior. I do not believe for a moment that this transformation can be fully accomplished without God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit helping us. Prior to the acceptance of Jesus Christ, I was blind and had scales on my eyes, thus these things were foolishness. I tried to help myself and that surely didn’t work out to well. We may think that we can accomplish this without God’s help, and that is each person’s  individual choice. In the end though, it is a ploy of Satan to keep us from our Father. See, this is not self-help, which is another deception. This is revealing the real truth – The bondage of Adam (man, self, pride, ego, flesh, etc.) and the freedom in Christ Jesus. If a non-believer continues to read, then I truly believe that their soul is interested because the Spirit is ministering to you. Why do I believe this? Because I have prayed for you and He answers prayer that is inline with His will. It is God’s will that all are saved. I pray for eyes to be opened, ears to be unlocked and hearts to receive His truth. If you have not accepted Christ into your life, I suggest doing so at this time so that these things will make sense and start ministering to you.

Examination: Let us first look at our beings and then explain each of the 3 parts. (As a side note, this is an area that is debatable in the church and please let the Spirit of God guide you on this topic. This is my current understanding. Regardless, please view the context of the message and not allow doctrinal reasoning to cause the context of the message to be missed): – The soul, which consists of our mind, emotions and our will (our character). The Spirit, which is aligned with God’s mind, emotions, and His will (the character of Christ). The flesh, which is aligned with a worldly mind, emotions, and will (the character of Satan). There is a spiritual war going on and they are fighting for our souls.  The battleground is the mind. “Choose this day who you will serve.” In order to choose wisely, we have to examine very closely the thoughts, emotions and will that we are addressed with. Is it mine (which has been molded by worldly things) or is it God’s? Then we choose wisely once this knowledge is gained. Let me reveal further -

Pertaining to the Spirit’s thoughts, emotions and will, these are revealed in the Word of God, which is Jesus Christ. Our souls are trying to be held captive into an image of Satan (Adam, me-first, ego, pride, being like gods, in control, humanism, etc). Jesus came to save us from this mess. He is revealed in the Word of God and the Word (Christ) guides us to the real truth. When the Spirit ministers to us, it will minister things that are in-line with the character of Jesus Chris. The benchmark of whether it is the Spirit ministering to us or the old-self is determined through the Word. Thoughts of the Spirit are God first, others second, and ourselves last. This is a revival of humility (Christ) that was once dead but has been made alive by being born again. It is a complete reversal of pride and humanism (Satan/Adam). The emotions of the Spirit are contentment, peace, joy, patience, caring, compassion, and everything else that lines up with good good peace. The will of the Spirit is revealed in God’s word and through the ministering of the Spirit of God to our souls.

The thoughts of Satan should be easily recognizable. It is what we have experienced our entire lives. Pride was Satan’s fall, it was Adam’s fall, and it is our fall. The thoughts are me-first. God and others will be placed in second or third place. They are typically thoughts of how I can benefit, thoughts of judging others, thoughts of how I’m bothered, etc. They are basically selfish thoughts. This is where the conscious gets seared and as an animal does, we will dodge such attack on our character, run and hide, cause a distraction, or fight. Thus, we will get thoughts like “He just called  me selfish. It is far from me to be selfish. Who do you think you are?” That my friend is the deception I was speaking of early on. Because it is pride/selfishness that is actually responding. The thing we are revealing here does NOT want to be revealed. The emotions that are part of Satan’s plans for us are the ones we are so use to. Hurt, pain, frustration, anxiety, worry, stress, depression, fear, anger, and so on. The will of Satan is to be like the Most High God. To set oneself up as the most important being, trying to become like a god, and be in control of things in the way that we like them.

The thoughts, emotions, and will of our characters are a direct result of which one of the above-mentioned we end up choosing. This is why it is very important that we examine these things from the Spirit. We have to get out of ourselves, the ways and thoughts we are use to, the emotions we are almost addicted to, and analyze outside of such things. Our minds are constantly bombarded by both sides, assuming the Spirit of God is with us. If we do not have God helping us, we can’t see these things. If that’s the case, we accept the thoughts we have always had, we say it is who we are and it’s okay, and these things are foolishness. We will fight, take offense, dodge and weave, or just run away when addressed with this topic. As in the Wizard of Oz, “Whatever you do, do not look behind the curtain, I cannot be revealed.” It is very sad for me to see people in this state. It breaks my heart. We end up fully accepting that we are the only intelligent being, there is no God, and we can do as we like to do. This is glorification of self, which is the exact thing we are speaking of, and the thing that Jesus wants to set us free from. Even believers of God will fall into this trap. They will justify their actions with things like “God just wants me to be happy!”, “I’m not hurting anyone else”, and/or “God put it here for a reason, for us to enjoy it!” Again, this is glorification of self. Believers, if you have had any thoughts like this, be very careful. It is deception. If that’s the case, please check out my website and find the article: Who is God?

Gaining further knowledge: I may have used the phrase “Wisdom and Choice” in the title, but I think a better understanding would be: “Wisdom is making good choices with learned knowledge.”  I think Wisdom is the application of learned information.  If I touch a hot stove and get burned, I have knowledge that the stove is hot and it burned me. If I do it 10,000 times, I have a lot of knowledge. When I choose to apply that knowledge as to not get burned, that is wise. To touch it again for the 10,001 time, well this is what we will be talking about. We’re ignorant to the knowledge that has been at our fingertips all along because we were once blind. Let’s bring it to light.

I recommend reading this topic of Thought.  If someone doesn’t understand their self talk and emotions, then in my humble opinion, this will be difficult to put into practice. Please stop now and at least read that post.  There is a lot of thinking, reading, and praying required. We should spend time with thought on our thoughts as well as watching what they do to the emotions.  Examine yourself. It is a process of transformation and reading this entry will not accomplish much without putting it into action.  In some, if not all of us, there is a terrible cycle that must be examined and understood.  As a friend once said “Play attention!”

I decided to start this topic because of an email I once received from a friend.  I will get to that in a minute. I wanted to reiterate, what I went over in my posting about thought. If someone has a negative emotion, such as hurt, sad, anger, frustration, guilt, depression, greed, ashamed, embarrassed, offended, etc then examine the self talk that triggered those emotions.  Listen to what it’s saying.  Write down the self talk, the triggered emotions, and how it affected additional thought patterns and/or our outward circumstances. We have to go through this in order to determine where these things are coming from, Flesh or Spirit.

See, we must realize that we are animals.  Ever since we were born, we were learning what it is to be a human being.  We are trained to be a human being like Adam (like man, the world, flesh, etc).  We should examine who our teacher was.  Society, friends, siblings, parents, TV, bad role models, etc.  Who was the teacher that taught us to get angry, to be sad, to get depressed, etc?  Basically, we were molded/taught by society that we must think certain thoughts in certain situations.  Our souls (mind, emotions and will) have been formed into the image of Satan. Christ is now breaking these molds and transforming our souls into His image, assuming we choose Him.

When we keep evaluating our thoughts (the main battle front), we will eventually find the triggers to our emotional state and it will be a phrase that we say in our head – the first phrase, the initial trigger. Write it down.  When we see the trigger, we will know immediately where it came from. Then watch the steps after the initial words – Watch what it’s doing to the body. Does it line up with God’s character in-Christ or does it look like the rest of the world? When we pay very close attention to the things going on in our body, we will recognize how an emotion flushes our body and rational thinking is out the window. If that happens, it is all emotionally based from this point on. For instance, my emotion was anger.  I watched self-talk triggered an emotion, then I felt a warming sensation start at the hips and watched it flood up my body. Even though I knew it was of the flesh, I agreed that I should not be angry in this situation, and I knew it was of the old-self, I couldn’t stop it. Emotions are a powerful powerful drug. If this happens, I highly recommend duct tape over the mouth. lol

Now to that email my friend sent.. The Two Wolves:

“One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.  He said, “My son, the battle is between two “wolves” inside us all. One is Evil.  It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good.  It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”  The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

This is the Holy Spirit vs flesh.  Christ vs Satan.  Good vs Evil.  As the story goes, the winner is our outward actions – an addiction, stressed, depressed, happy, joyful, peaceful, etc.  It is the difference between the secular world and spiritual world.  Salvation vs hell, etc. Now to actually talk about this topic of wisdom/choice, haha.

Wisdom and Choice: Wisdom/Knowledge will help our lives by leaps and bounds.  I see knowledge as those things that are repetitive in our lives whereas we gain knowledge and start to understand them.  Ever feel depressed, angry, frustrated, sad, worried?  Ever run back to an addiction over and over again?  Think about it.  How many times has the same bad emotion or event played itself out in our lives?  After the aforementioned is analyzed and we take the time to write things down, we will see things we have done 100s, 1000s, tens of 1000′s of times in life.  Guess what, we’re going to get the same results the next 1000 times this situation comes up – unless something changes. Oooh, did you get that?  If not, re-read it.  A good word of knowledge.  Learn the lesson or retake the course, it’s that simple. It was kind of funny that I had this knowledge slapping me upside the head for years, and I didn’t even see it. I pray your eyes are being opened.

Here is my example in the next 2 paragraphs: My ex-g/f and I had a common argument.  The topic would be different, but outside of the specific topic, it was always the same circle of events.  I started jotting down the steps of our arguments because we went through the same general scenario every single time.  I thought – “Man, I’ve been here before.  Same results.  Not talking.  Talking of break-up.  Feeling terrible.”  The end result that I just mentioned always started with someone’s thought, then an emotion, more thought, more emotions, words coming out of the mouth (the outward action), and then a full blown argument.  At the time, I didn’t realize these things I were writing down were good good knowledge. I was writing down, step by step, what happened during a repetitive situation.  For example, on my piece of paper I had written down something like: Step 1: I was upset. Step 2: I said something stupid. Step 3: It affected her. Step 4: She responded in like-kind. Step 5: repeat steps 1-4. Step 6: not talking for timeframe. Step 7: talk about break up. Step 8.. you get the idea. One day while we were in the midst of a disagreement, I looked at the notes.  I said to myself – “Hmmm, we’re on step 5.. She’s gonna mention break-up in the next day or so.”  Yep.  I had written down knowledge…and knew where things were going.  huh. HUH. Seeing it yet? 10,000 times..100,000 times. At this point, when a disagreement started, I knew every step along the way.  I knew the beginning, the middle and the end result.  It was the same cycle over and over, in which I had experienced 100s of times.

If we have have this knowledge, then we can change the outcome for the good by making a better choice. Wouldn’t that be wise?? If something does not change with this knowledge in our hands, we are now accepting the fact that things will go down that path again. Here’s where it gets good and deep. Take the list of events, and we’ll use mine above as an example. See that trigger on step 1 (Step 1: I was upset)? Analyze it and break that sucker down.  I asked myself, why am I upset? I realized because I thought something. Then I asked “Why do I think these things?” (analyzing/examining!) Then I came to a determination, “Hmmm, I can choose something else outside of what the world taught me to think in this situation. What else is there to choose? Hmmm, I could choose this, or I could choose that.” So then I examined deeper.. let us go deeper and see God. I questioned, “What is at the root of each of the possible choices? What is the spark?” (dwell on this, seriously..) – Whoa.. Hello God.. Hello Satan.. Zing!

At this point, we are now standing at the doorway of freedom, assuming Jesus is with you and the Kingdom of God is on the other side of that door. :) This ended up understanding to many other challenges in my life.  It was realized that if my soul chose a humanistic/trained thought, I was in the same boat.. same worldly emotions would come up, and the resulting action was the same. Not wise..  If my soul used the knowledge wisely, I chose the morale governing law of God.. Jesus.. the Spirit. After going through specific negative feelings such as hurt, frustration, worry, stress, depression, etc 1000s upon 1000s of times in my life, I knew them inside and out. I just never could see them! I had knowledge all along and it wasn’t being used, very unwise. Time to get wise.

See: These things that happen in our lives.. repetitively..  “Learn the lesson, or retake the course.. It’s that simple”. Like the wolf story above.  We keep feeding the negative self talk and negative emotions.  So guess who will win the battle?  Our reality is a result of what we think, and what we think is a result of our choice to think it.. Set your minds on things above. Again, we have these habits and molds that are formed throughout life.  When we are born, we are informational gatherers.  We are learning what it means to be “human”.  So as we are learning, what do we experience?  Who’s teaching us?  We are taught via society, our surroundings, friends, family, TV, and have marketing materials in our face constantly. We are trained to act a certain way, believe certain things, get upset when certain things happen, and so on.  We must realize as a society that we don’t need to do these things, we have a choice. Choose to set our minds on things above, not things below.

Jesus will break the chains.  The Truth shall set you free indeed.. How do we break these molds?  Re-training.  We are now adults, and have new knowledge in us, in-Christ.  This is called being born again – Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.  By utilization of our Helper, we are now retraining ourselves to make a better initial choice on Step 1 – to think a different thought. His thoughts.  Then everyting flows from there.  We speak differently, we feel different, our relationships are different, and so on. Instead of looking like the rest of the world, we start looking like Jesus Christ.

Now that we know these things, if we don’t spend the time making a change and going deeper, we will be in the same situation again.  What did Einstein say? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result. Duh. I’m betting that there are many readers that prefer to not be in some repetitive situations again.  Our souls scream out for change.  Take a look back throughout our individual lives, and remember the negative situations we go through.  See any repetitiveness?  Anything look familiar?  Been through similar situations 100s and 100s of times?  Boy, it sure did for me!  We experience certain things so many times that we know them like the back of our hands, and we just think “That’s who I am!”.  No.. That’s who you were trained to be.  Make a change.  Don’t accept what society made you to be.  Be something better for your family’s sake, for your own sake, for the sake of society, and most importantly, for the sake of our Father God. He loves you and wants you in His arms. Choose wisely student of life!

Possible challenge: Sometimes we can’t get out of the rut at all because we are concentrated on being in the rut.  We get consumed by the rut we are in, and we may even say something like “I’m in this rut and I want to get out.  I can’t though.”  <– Stop.  We are what we think. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. If you say it, it’s because you felt it, and you felt it because you thought it, and you thought it because you chose it. Our outside actions and emotions are a result of what we are thinking. Our reality, the things in our existence are born in our thought process. If we think it, we make it so. Choose wisely! As we keep thinking we can’t get out, we won’t.  As in, the effort and thoughts are focused on the actual challenge.  Let it go.  Stop.  It’s a trap of Satan. Keep looking at it, and the challenge continues.  Put the effort into looking to Jesus, calling out for Him to save us, grab the bible, pray!  He will rescue us immediately if we look at Him.  Take the mind’s eye off of the situation (remove the blinders) and look at Him.

Sometimes, I still could not get out of the rut with this knowledge. I forced myself to call out to Jesus: “Save me!”.  And then I forced myself to pick up the bible, even though the emotional disturbance was saying no. He will immediately reach down and grab us, just like as Peter was sinking in the water as he looked at the waves crashing in around him.  Where is our mind’s eye?  On the challenge at hand?  Well, that’s where we will be.  Change what the mind is looking at.  Put it on Jesus, Peace will overcome us immediately, His character guarantees it.

Summary: We have been trained by society, who also does not know any better. It is not their fault, Satan is to blame. We have a generational challenge and someone must break the molds.  We don’t have to get upset, frustrated, depressed, we don’t have to worry, we don’t have to turn to an addiction, we don’t have to argue with people.  We can turn a new leaf and start looking at things differently.  We can place these wordly things on the Cross in Christ-Jesus, and in return, we get His Mind, His Heart, His Eyes, His Ears.. We get His Righteousness in return.  This means we see things totally differently.

Remember, however old we are, we were trained for that many years to be the person we are today.  If there are areas that need adjusting, it’s going to take time to burn the stuff out of us.  Eventually, we start to make better choices and wisely exercising knowledge.  After evaluating for a while, will will start to see a battle going on inside of us.  We will desire to make better choices, but we will not at times. We will still choose things of the flesh that we wish we were not doing.  If we get to a point of thinking we are going insane, we are on the right track and we are ready to bust loose. This will happen because we see both sides of the coin (recognizing the good vs bad thoughts). We may still make unwise choices, and this is the Spirit revealing these things in us. Then, there is no other place to go but the ultimate choice.  Choose God or choose this world. The Word of God will help us in this transformation. Everything that the self-help books have, this has, but it ultimately reveals the real truth and does not mask it/hide it.

Let us always consider the opposite of any negative area we are addressed with (Looking upon the Spirit). What is opposite of frustration? Peace. What is the opposite of sadness?  Happiness.  There are 2 sides to everything and the sides are: in-Christ or in-Adam, Self or God, Sin or Righteousness, Pride or Humility, etc.  They are both warring for our soul, and our free-will/choice decides who we stand in agreement with. In the end, there is one Truth, and His name is Jesus Christ, God, Lord, Holy Spirit, and Father. Remember, we put ourselves wherever we may currently be via our own choices.  No one “makes” our choices for us, we have free-will. The unseen are things that are eternal.  The things we see are temporal.

Rendering Unto God and Caesar – Living Out the Parable

Living Out the Parable of Rendering Unto God and Caesar

How We Are to Live Today

Jesus once said that we are to “render unto Caesar what is due Caesar and render unto God what is due God.” The meaning behind this parable is easy to understand. We must pay our taxes and follow the laws the government lays out for us, while at the same time tithing and obeying God’s word in our lives. It was the ideal way to live then, and it is the way we are called as Christians to live today.

This means we must follow the laws of the land, no matter whether we agree with them or not. This means following the speed limit, being honest on our tax returns, and avoid taking that which does not belong to us. It also means that we must follow God’s law as described in the Bible, go to church, pray, and tithe. We must also do charitable works and serve others, for “faith without works is dead.” As human beings, we have many rules we must follow, as we expect our children to follow our rules.

The Bible also states that, “Man can not serve two masters.” So what happens if the law of man (the government) is directly opposed to the law of God? Just as the U.S. Constitution states that the law of the federal government comes before the laws of the states, the law of God must come before the law of man. In some cases, especially in some countries, this means facing potential jail time for following God’s law, or even being martyred. Yet, it is what we are called on to do, and as people who love God, we should do these things gladly. We should always be glad to follow God’s law, no matter where it leads us.

Do Not Be Lukewarm

We have to be careful here and not straddle the proverbial “fine line”. If a law is proclaimed that violates God’s law as stated in Scripture then you must decide to whom you have final allegiance. Laws requiring abortion or euthanasia or other such things fall under what is “due God.”

However, matters dealing with expenses, and where we work, how we get our mail and many aspects of our daily lives all fall into the realm of what is “due Caeser.” Yes, even taxes, no matter how oppressive. The tax system in Jesus’ time was incredibly oppressive, he himself paid them.

Why? Because it was due Caesar. However, matters of the heart, soul, and mind are what we render to God.

The difference in our mindset in this country is borne from the fact that for almost 200 years our Caesar (elected government) have given us the rights over everyday matters. And now that Caesar has decided to begin taking control of these things more himself, we panic and become angry, when in reality it began long time ago, most notably in the 1930s.

My Guarantee

And here is my hindsight prophetic guarantee to you (yes, this is confusing to me also but sure sounds good). Had we in our own lives (collectively as a nation) rendered to God what is due him (heart, soul, mind, strength) then our Caesar now would not be asking/demanding/taking a bigger chunk of what he believes is due him.

A hard pill to swallow, I know.

So, do your best to follow the law of man; and if you do not like it, use legal channels to change it, all the while obeying it while it exists. But never obey the law of man above the law of God. God’s law is supreme, in all cases, and that is the way it should be.
