Success in a Home Based Business
Treat your home business like a million $ business and you will succeed. Stop negotiating with the price and
“just do it!”
Do whatever it takes. Are you doing as little as possible or…whatever it takes? Your answer to that last
question will make you or break you in your current endeavor. Once you make a definite decision to DO it,
your subconscious and everybody else’s around you swings into action to help make it happen.
Below are some of the basics it will take to succeed in your home business.
Be teachable
Not only will you need to be teachable, but you need to commit some time each week to learn. That includes
being part of any training call your company offers. I would even suggest that you should listen to every
opportunity call your company offers in the beginning, so you get an idea of how your program is being sold. I
rarely miss a call that my company makes available…and that’s one of the major reasons I've been successful
and am a top earner in my home business.
Like any new business, there is a learning curve. You will not absorb everything over night. It might even be
overwhelming to you at first, but relax – learn one major marketing and/or advertising point at a time – you’ll be
an expert faster than you think.
Can’t make all the webinars? Don't worry, you can download most training calls to your mp3 player or make a
CD of it and listen to them on your way to work.
Work on your attitude
This is a big one and probably the hardest for aggressive entrepreneurs to take seriously. But I'll bold and say
that your attitude is one of the major keys to success. See our new section under "Self Improvement" for
more information. If you're not reading at least one of the recommended books in that section every
month you will not succeed in your home business.
Set Goals
You need to set monthly and yearly goals.
Where do you want to be in one or in 3 months?
What do you want to earn? Answer that question
first.
Then you need to lay out what you'll need to do
(daily and weekly) to accomplish your goals.
Next you need to write your achievement and
activity goals down on paper…and keep it
somewhere it can be reviewed regularly –
at least two to three times per week.
Be realistic. If you’re just starting out, don’t tell
yourself you WILL make $50,000 your second
month. Chances are pretty high that you have
not gained the necessary marketing and
business knowledge to make that a reality. Since every company’s pay plan is different, you might ask what the
most successful distributor was able to accomplish in their second or third month. If someone else has done it
– so can you!
Commit some time to building your business
It will take a commitment of at least 10 to 15 hours per week to build a successful business. Of course, the
more time you spend building your business, the faster you'll make money and can quit your job.
Here is how you'll need to spend your time in no specific order:
- Learning the business - Become a student of your home business. Study what the most successful
people in your business are doing. Use your driving time to do some studying like listening to audios
about marketing. Go through this site area by area and get to know the ins and outs of how to succeed
online.
- Placing ads - There are two types of ads, some are to be placed every day (free ads and safe-list ads,
etc). Some, like Google Ad Words can be set up and left to run for a stretch of time. Once you’ve
done it a few times, setting up these campaigns will not take much time. But remember, what you don’t
have in money, you need to invest in time. The more money you have, the more automated your
advertising can be – and the less time you'll have to spend on placing free ads. (see "Ad Budgets" for
more information).
- Following up with and closing prospects - this is a real key to your success especially when it
comes to a home based business. You can triple your sales by following up on your leads generated
by your lead capture page. Most important, you need to contact your prospect and convert them into
customers. That is done first via an auto responder and then, even more important is your follow-up
via phone calls. You'll need to do both, especially when it come to a home based business.
- Helping your team - By referring your team members to this training site you'll be able to spend most
of your time selling, however, there will be times when you need to be available for training, pointing
them into the right direction and even doing three-way calling with prospects.
Of course, your priorities will change slightly as you grow a large business. Personally, I would keep prime
hours open for following up with your prospects and helping your team and non-prime time for studying and
placing ads. Also check out my new website that talks about Success and Failure.
